The Jeypore Odisha Region
The people of the Jeypore Odisha Region live in a land of lush green hills. Although the temperature soars in summer, monsoon rains bring cooler temperatures along with life-giving water for agriculture, which provides a livelihood for the majority of the population. Corn, ginger, cotton and rice are the main crops. Many also raise livestock or work in industry.
Gorgeous hand-woven and dyed scarves and saris come from this area, along with wide varieties of traditional art forms, including dance and music.
In the Jeypore Odisha Region, people are very religious and observe many elaborate festivals and rituals. The majority are very poor, low-caste tribals, and illiteracy is common. Child marriage is prevalent, and alcoholism is a struggle for many.
