The East Sikkim Region
The East Sikkim Region is nicknamed “Rhododendron” for the many red and white flowers that blossom in the area. It’s covered with high hills and mountains where the climate is typically cold year-round. Production of the spice cardamon is the main source of income.
The Lepcha and Bhutia people, who migrated from Tibet, live here and practice Buddhism. The people do their best to preserve their culture and spiritual heritage. Their social customs and marriage rites are bound by an ancient custom that the people adhere to even today.
